Green IT Amsterdam
Maikel is Manager Marketing communications & collaboration at Green IT Amsterdam working within the area between the themes sustainability, information technology (IT) and cities, with a special focus on datacenters.
His career in sustainability started in 2006 in Poland. During his first internship he worked on an EU project aiming to stimulate the renewable energy industry in Central and Eastern Europe. In 2009 he won the prestigious competition of the National Youth Council (NJR) and the Social and Economic Council of the Netherlands with an essay on the potential of a sustainable economy in the Netherlands.
Very soon after this he started working at a successful IT start-up from Amsterdam, one of the pioneering organisations working on the circular economy within the IT industry, Durabilit. Durabilit has been nominated for several sustainability awards like the German GreenIT-BB award and the prestigious Sustainable Energy Award from the European Commission in 2012.
From 2011-2013 Maikel had a seat on the board of ISPConnect, a leading association of Internet Service Providers in the Netherlands.
In 2013 he was chosen as one of the 100 most inspiring and innovative young people working on sustainability in the Netherlands and one of 10 within the category Design, Technology and Innovation.
Maikel is working for Green IT Amsterdam, a public-private collaboration of IT corporations, energy & engineering companies, datacenters and academia/research institutes. This consortium of Green IT leaders has a mission to increase energy efficiency and decreasing carbon emissions by scouting, testing and exploring smart IT solutions. Around 45 organizations are participating in the Green IT Amsterdam consortium, ranging from the global tech leader until start-ups from the Amsterdam region.
