President, Mission Critical Services
Electronic Environments Corporation
Kevin O’Brien leads EEC’s Mission-Critical Construction Services division. Mr. O’Brien brings over 33 years of engineering and construction experience with the past 15 years dedicated solely to mission-critical construction. Kevin has been involved with well over 13 million sq. ft. of data center construction for such reputable clients as JPMC, Goldman Sachs, Merrill Lynch, Credit Suisse, NYSE, Digital Realty Trust, AT&T and Halifax Bank of Scotland, to name a few.
Most recently, Kevin served as Mission Critical Sector leader for Gilbane where he built a national mission-critical business with establishment of multiple Centers of Excellence located throughout the country. Kevin was responsible for hiring staff, setting mission-critical standards and oversight responsibilities for the construction and commissioning of all data center projects.
Before Gilbane, Kevin had a 20-year tenure beginning in May 1990 at Structure Tone, Inc. based in NYC. Kevin created Structure Tone’s Technical Services group. This group specialized in working with financial services clients. Ultimately this group grew to 30 plus staff members supporting the company and clients globally with technical expertise in preconstruction, estimating, procurement, construction and commissioning. Projects ranged from infrastructure to trading floors and data centers. In January 1998, Kevin created a technology management company for Structure Tone, ST Tech Services, which in 2000 ultimately turned into a global data center construction company with projects across the US, UK, Ireland and mainland Europe. ST Tech Services grew into Structure Tone Mission Critical which had a dedicated approach and focus on the data center or mission critical market sector.
Prior to Structure Tone, Kevin was the Director of Design and Construction for Bear Stearns with global responsibility from 1987 to 1990. This is where Kevin cut his teeth on data centers. He was responsible for the operation of the existing data centers and also ran the construction of new data centers. Kevin had complete MEP responsibility for all Bear Stearns properties around the globe.
Kevin holds an AAS in Environmental Control Technology and a BS in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) from the University of Central Florida. He is active with Datacenter Dynamics and a member of the 7x24 Exchange.
