Richard Kropfl

VP Data Center Operations

Richard has held multiple technology executive positions in both Financial Services and Internet companies including Bank of America and Yahoo.  He currently serves as the Vice President of Data Center Operations at Yahoo responsible for Global Data Center Operations, Design, and Construction.  He recently completed one of the largest data center consolidation projects ever done by migrating to lower cost owned and operated data centers.  This migration took Yahoo from 31 global data center locations to 11.  In the process, Richard led the construction of more than 40 megawatts of data center capacity on three continents.  This includes a recent project in Western New York that has the total capacity of 7.2 megawatts of power and can house over 500 employees.  These innovative facilities leverage a patented energy efficient design that uses 40% less power than conventional data centers and 80% less water.  This design also earned Yahoo a $9.9M grant from the Department of Energy.  Additionally, Yahoo earned the 2014 DataCenter Dynamics North American Award “Improved Data Center Energy Efficiency” for its joint data center project with SynapSense® that saved 7.5 million kilowatt hours of energy annually.
