An unrelated twosome: Dynamic redundancy and greenwashing

Victor Avelar, Director and Senior Research Analyst, Data Center Science Center, Schneider Electric

Traditional data center design approaches rely on building redundancy into the critical infrastructure, which comes at a cost in operating and capital expense. The recent focus on data center efficiency led many to question the value of this extreme redundancy. This presentation will explore how emerging approaches and technologies such as server power capping, higher and varying operating temperatures, improved disaster recovery sites, and the ASHRAE X factor may provide further opportunities for more efficient cooling designs.  In addition, the presentation will also cover a short discussion on “greenwashing” using carbon footprint models.

A practitioner's guide to data center physical security

Tim Hickinbottom, Global Account Manager, APAC, Anixter

A “macro-segmentation” approach to risk security management is required within the layers of physical security to support a risk management strategy.  What are best practices for adopting a deter, detect, delay and defend strategy designed specifically for the data center environment? Here’s a six-layered approach with policy and practice guidelines for perimeter, clear zone, reception, service corridor, data hall and equipment cabinet areas.

Solution Stage: Want to reduce maintenance downtime risk and cost while increasing safety? We'll show you how the Next Technology Step achieves that and prepares for the "Internet of Things"

Ross Kennedy, Founder & CEO, QHi Group

Bad joints / terminations  cause  an estimated 30 > 40% of major  power outages / arc flash incidents globally.  There is a huge performance gap between the perception industry has  in the benefits being delivered  against what is actually being delivered by current technology and annual inspections.

Now the next technology step is here providing 24/7 thermal monitoring  of electrical switchgear via permanently installed IR sensors, and closing the performance gap.

Solution Stage: 80% of engine performance problems start in the fuel tank – as a food source to the Genset, what kind of “health check-up” are you giving to the fuel?

Jason Chia, Account Manager, Power Technologies

The world relies heavily on Diesel Fuel more than ever.  In fact, diesel fuel usage has increased 220% over the past 30 years.  This increase in demand has lead to changes in the production of diesel fuel that negatively impact the quality and stability of the fuel.

AXI’s innovative solutions and cutting edge technology restores, maintains, and improves the quality and stability of diesel fuel wherever it is used or stored.

Manage storage sprawl and islands with software-defined storage

Simon Mok, Regional Director, South Asia and ANZ, FalconStor

Let’s face it; embracing new storage technologies, capabilities, and upgrading to new hardware often results in added complexity and costs. The reality is that when IT equipment, platforms, and applications do not integrate with one another, the resulting “sprawl” of storage islands and silos on disparate systems can be costly, risky, disruptive, and time-consuming.  But it does not have to be that way.  Come learn about the approach IT organizations need to eliminate lock-in, lock-out and embrace an open approach to Storage.

Panel: Responsibility versus accountability for security in evermore distributed mission critical assets – who is in charge?

Anthony Lim, Vice-Chair, Application Security, (ISC)² Dr Kwok-Yan Lam, Founder, PrivyLink International & MTCS Working Group Member Harshal Mehta, Director - Information Security APAC, Carlson Wagonlit Travel John Lim , President , ISACA, Singapore Chapter

IT security in evermore distributed mission critical IT systems has become the number one threat for CIOs. With more interconnected devices and interconnected people the proliferation of malicious attacks, data breaches and even complete system failure has multiplied. We ask our panel of security experts: Who's in charge and how can the organisation be structured to mitigate these risks? What is the low-hanging fruit in terms of cost and implementation of defense mechanisms? Looking to the future what should Security Chiefs be most worried about?

Clement Goh, Managing Director, South Asia, Equinix Daryl Dunbar, Managing Director, Asia Pacific, Digital Realty Kevin Wee, Director, Colocation Business Development, Asia Pacific, CenturyLink

As “software is eating the world” we ask the leaders of three of the region’s most important data center service providers what the market will look like for them in five years time. Is there a consensus of opinion, or are there divergent views?
